Abstract

Purpose: The purposes of this study were to identify degree and affecting factors of knowledge and education demands toward newborn care in multi-cultural mothers.
Methods: The study used a cross-sectional descriptive design and a population-based data collection of 144 Chinese & Vietnamese mothers. The 93-item Knowledge and Education Demands toward Newborn Care Scale translated into their mother language was used for data collection, while descriptive statistics, t test, ANOVA, and Pearson¡¯s correlation coefficient were used in the data analyses.
Results: Multi-cultural mothers¡¯ knowledge toward Newborn care was relatively high and demand toward newborn care education was a pretty high. Country of origin, with or without children, and newborn care experience made mothers¡¯ knowledge and education demand toward newborn care significantly different.
Conclusion: As the result suggested, country of origin, with or without children, and newborn care experience need to be considered when designing newborn baby care educatinal program for multi-cultural mothers.
